HO'OKELE NOHO
 (Navigator's Chair, Port Side)

The port side of a double hulled voyaging
canoe is the wahine (female) side and the
starboard side is the kane (male) side.

It is from these seats that the Polynesian
navigator followed the star paths....trails of light
across the cosmic darkness.

Along with the stars, the Polynesian navigator
noted the position of the rising sun, the ocean's
current and angle of the waves, as well as the
wind's direction.

I can only imagine the fierce courage,
confidence, quality of mind and sensory
perception that characterized the individuals
that sat there 1600 years ago, and continues to
characterize those that still sit in THIS seat
today.
